Thursday saw OUCC return to Lord’s for two T20 varsity matches. Whilst the results might not have gone the way we wanted, it was a tremendous experience for all involved.
In the Women’s T20, Oxford recovered from a difficult start to post a competitive 111-5, with fresher Hannah Davis the standout performer, carrying her bat for 50*. The run chase was well-poised at 36-2 after 7 overs, when rain unfortunately intervened, and the game ended in a tie on DLS.
In the Men’s game, Tom Simpson hit a magnificent hundred off 60 balls, supported by Josh Royan’s 26 (17), as the Blues finished on 175-5. Cambridge batted excellently in the chase, and although the game could have gone either way at several points, the Tabs won in the penultimate over, thanks to 50s from skipper Harry Houillon and Hari Kukreja.
Our thanks to the MCC and Lord’s for hosting us, the umpires and scorers, and finally all the supporters who came down. Varsity fever continues this week, with the Tics/Devs T20s at Fenner’s on Tuesday, Devs 50 over at King’s College (Cambridge) on Wednesday, and finally Tics One-day Varsity at Arundel Castle on Thursday. Teamsheets to be announced very soon, and tickets for Arundel (including parking) can be purchased on the gate.
