The team is drawn from eight major University Cricket Clubs in our six first-class states and the ACT. Each of these clubs has illustrious histories and many Australian Test cricketers have represented their country after playing for them. At national level, England has won the last two Ashes contests, so there is a strong hope that this group of Australians can turn the tables on our English counterparts at the picturesque Parks in Oxford. "Good luck to everyone involved in the inaugural Oxford University v Australian Universities match. The fixture sounds like a brilliant idea and hope it is the first of many. There have always been strong links between Oxford and Oz and long may they continue. Three decades ago there were several outstanding Australians in the Parks – even if they may not have been categorised as outstanding cricketers by the standards of Warne, Gilchrist etc. I'm thinking of Rod (now Sir Rod) Eddington, businessman supreme and cagey left-arm spinner, and Mike L'Estrange, Australian High Commissioner in London until quite recently, and dogged left-handed bat.
