woMen's blues

The 2018-19 season promises to be another strong one for OUCC Ladies with much of the Varsity winning squad of 2017-18 returning this year. Both the bowling and batting stocks have also been boosted with the discovery of several promising new recruits. The squad are training hard for the season ahead and selection of the First XI is sure to be difficult for Coach Graham Charlesworth and Captain Vanessa Picker.

Women’s cricket at Oxford marked a significant milestone in 2018/19 with the granting of Full Blue status for the first time (Discretionary Full Blue Sport from 2015 – 2018). We have also made great strides on the social side of things, thanks to the efforts of various social secs, who have organised a number of OUCC joint socials with the ‘Tics and the Men’s Blues. Special mention must be made to all Committee members who have contributed time and energy to ensure that the 2018-19 season will be a successful one (Vanessa Picker, Amy Hearn, Caitlin Deacock, Chloe Dack, Emily Wilkins, Izzy Harrison and Lucy Duncan).

The Ladies Blues are looking forward to a busy Trinity Term of BUCS fixtures, Varsity matches and friendlies against the Army, the Navy, Oxfam and MCC. The development squad will play various local Oxfordshire League matches. Dates for this season’s Varsity events have been set. The T20 will be held in Cambridge this year (17th May). The Blues will play against MCC at Lord’s on 28th May. The One Day Varsity match will be played at The Parks (22nd June). Details of all fixtures have been posted under the fixtures tab of OUCC. We will also be organising a Cuppers Day (date TBC) so look out for info from your college or get in touch if you want to try out cricket (no previous experience necessary).

If you’re interested in joining us for some cricket this year – it’s not too late!  Prospective players should contact Vanessa Picker (vanessa.picker@jesus.ox.ac.uk).
